CECC for Dengue Outbreak convened first meeting to coordinate various dengue prevention and control resources in order to prevent further dengue transmission at any cost

To coordinate and distribute various dengue prevention and control resources, integrate relevant personnel as well as to oversee the implementation of dengue prevention and control policies, the Executive Yuan activated the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) for Dengue Outbreak on September 15, 2015 and Vice Premier Chang San-cheng of the Executive Yuan was appointed as the Commander. The Executive Yuan will be in charge of coordinating resources from several government agencies, including the Ministry of Health and Welfare (MOHW), the Environmental Protection Administration (EPA), the Ministry of National Defense (MOND), and the Ministry of Education (MOE) to support the recently established forward command post in southern Taiwan and supervise the implementation of dengue prevention and control efforts by frontline workers in order to ensure central-local vertical co-ordination. CECC for Dengue Outbreak convened its first meeting in the afternoon of September 15.

 

Premier Mao Chi-kuo of the Executive Yuan stressed that as the global incidence of dengue infections has escalated over the recent years. Dengue has become a major international public health concern. As there is no specific treatment and therapeutics for dengue, the prevention and control of the disease continue to face new challenges. The Executive Yuan has instructed all relevant ministries to adopt a more aggressive approach and work closely as a team to effectively prevent further dengue transmission. In addition, Premier Mao also instructed CECC for Dengue Outbreak to thoroughly implement the following four major strategies:

  

Commander Chang specifically pointed out that besides providing resources and personnel to relevant ministries, the purpose of activating CECC for Dengue Outbreak is to assist local governments in thorough implementation of various dengue prevention and control efforts.

 

CECC urges the public to voluntarily look for vector breeding sites in and around their residences and frequently empty and clean container habitats in order to ensure environmental cleanliness and ward off infection. It is hoped that through the concerted efforts of the general public and the central and local government agencies that the ongoing outbreaks will be successfully brought under control soon.
