Japan reports one asymptomatic COVID-19 case returning to Japan from Taiwan; CECC and local governments launch epidemic investigation

On June 24, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) reported that Taiwan had received a notification from Japan International Health Regulations (IHR) National Focal Point on June 23 that an asymptomatic traveler who returned to Japan from Taiwan had been confirmed to have coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

The CECC further explained that after contact with Japanese authorities, it has obtained information on the confirmed case. The case is a Japanese female in her 20s. She traveled to Taiwan from Japan in the second half of February and stayed in southern Taiwan for studies. During her stay in Taiwan, the case spent most of her time in southern Taiwan. The case returned to Japan last week and was tested positive for COVID-19 upon entry into Japan. 

As of writing, a total of 140 individuals who came into contact with the case in Taiwan have been identified. Of the 140 individuals, 125 have been identified as the contacts to be subjected to home isolation, and 15 have been identified as the contacts subjected to self-health management.
