CECC confirms 8 more COVID-19 cases; cases arrive in Taiwan from the Philippines, Indonesia and Poland

On November 13, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced eight new confirmed imported cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Among those eight new cases (Cases 591-598), five arrived in Taiwan from the Philippines; two traveled from Indonesia; and one came from Poland.

Case #591, Case #592, and Cases #595-597 are two male crew members and three female migrant workers. Among those five cases, Case #595 are an Indonesian national, and the other four are Philippine nationals. Their ages range between 20 to 40 years old, and they entered Taiwan on October 28 and October 29. Those five travelers stayed at group quarantine facilities after entry, and none of them showed suspected symptoms during the quarantine period. They underwent COVID-19 testing on November 11 and November 12 before completing the quarantine period. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the cases on November 13. 

Case #593 are a Taiwanese woman in her 50s. She traveled to the Philippines to visit her relatives in mid-July and returned to Taiwan on October 29. The Taiwanese woman was given a COVID-19 test on November 11, and infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on November 13.

Case #594 is a Taiwanese man in his 20s. He visited Poland for studies in mid-August and returned to Taiwan on November 10. When entering Taiwan, he voluntarily notified airport quarantine officers that he experienced symptoms. Thus, he had his specimen collected upon arrival. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on November 13.

Case #598 is a Taiwanese man in his 30s. He traveled to Indonesia for work in the first half of September and returned to Taiwan on November 11. He voluntarily notified airport quarantine officers that he experienced symptoms. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on November 13.

The CECC reported that a cumulative total of 105,292 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 103,758. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 597 cases. Of the 597 confirmed cases, 505 are imported; 55 are indigenous; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 1 case has unknown sources of infection; and 1 case (Case #530) has been removed (Case#530 is not assigned to any patients). Of the confirmed cases, there have been 7 deaths, and 533 patients have been released from isolation, with the other 57 patients remaining hospitalized in isolation.
