CECC confirms 1 more imported COVID-19 case; case returns to Taiwan from Philippines

On July 16, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced one new confirmed imported case of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Case #452 is an over 30-year-old female. The case traveled to the Philippines for work in the second half of January and returned to Taiwan by herself on July 14.

The case took a COVID-19 test arranged by her company on June 30, and she tested negative. However, the case developed an abnormal sense of smell on the afternoon of July 14. She voluntarily reported her suspected symptoms to quarantine officers at the airport when entering Taiwan the evening of the same day. After the quarantine officers arranged her COVID-19 testing, the case was transported to a group quarantine facility. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on July 16. The case is currently hospitalized in isolation for medical treatment.

The CECC reported that a cumulative total of 79,065 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 78,100. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 452 cases. Of 452 confirmed cases in Taiwan, 361 are imported and 55 are indigenous while 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship.
