On March 6, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced one new confirmed imported case of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and one new death (Case #889) in Taiwan. The new case, Case #1058, arrived in Taiwan from the United States.

The CECC pointed out that Case #1058 is a Taiwanese female in her 20s. She traveled to Taiwan from the United States for work in October 2020 and returned to Taiwan on April 3, 2021. The Taiwanese woman began to develop a cough, a runny nose, nasal congestion, diarrhea, and an abnormal sense of smell and taste between April 4 and April 8. Because of her persistent symptoms, the health authority then arranged for her to seek medical attention and undergo testing on April 9. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on April 11.

The CECC pointed out that the new death was Case #889, a Taiwanese man in his 60s with chronic conditions. He began to develop symptoms on January 19, and was diagnosed with COVID-19 on January 24. He was released from the isolation ward as he met the testing criteria for release on February 22; however, he remained hospitalized to be treated for other diseases. He began to experience shortness of breath, lower blood pressure, and severe arrhythmia on April 8; he died from pneumonia complicated by septic shock the next day.

The CECC reported that a cumulative total of 195,600 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 193,727. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 1057 cases. Of the 1057 confirmed cases, 941 are imported; 77 are indigenous; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 2 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has unknown sources of infection; and 1 case (Case #530) has been removed (Case #530 is not assigned to any patients). Of the confirmed cases, there have been 11 deaths, and 1022 patients have been released from isolation, with the other 24 patients remaining hospitalized in isolation.
