CECC confirms 12 more COVID-19 cases, including 8 domestic cases and 4 imported cases

On July 17, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced 12 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Of the 12 new cases, eight are domestic and the other four are imported. The CECC also announced one death today.

The CECC pointed out that of the 8 domestic cases (of whom, four tested positive while they were in home isolation or completed their isolation period), six are men and the other two are women, aged between 20 to 69 years old. They began to suffer the onset of symptoms between July 5 and July 15, 2021. Regarding those domestic cases, New Taipei City reported the most cases at 5, followed by Taipei City, Taoyuan City and Taichung City with one case each.

The CECC pointed out that the one death (Case #3419) announced today was an over 60-year-old male with chronic diseases and no history of contact with other confirmed cases.

Regarding the four new imported cases, Case #15486 is a Taiwanese male in his 20s. He arrived in Taiwan from the United Arab Emirates on July 14. After arrival, he was quarantined in a group quarantine facility, and was tested for COVID-19. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on July 17 (the CT value was 32.1).

Case #15494 is a Taiwanese female in her 50s. She arrived in Taiwan from the US on May 13. She visited the hospital to take a self-paid test on July 16 as she planned to leave Taiwan. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on July 17 (the CT value was 36).

Case #15495 is an over 40-year-old man from Hong Kong. He arrived in Taiwan from Nigeria on May 7. Due to work requirements, he took a COVID-19 test on July 16. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on July 17 (the CT value was 36).

Case #15496 is a Taiwanese man in his 50s. He returned to Taiwan from Indonesia on July 8. After arrival, he was quarantined in a group quarantine facility and was tested for COVID-19. The test result was negative. He developed a sore throat and other symptoms on July 10. Because his symptoms persisted, the health authority then arranged for him to be tested on July 16. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on July 17.

The CECC reported that a total of 1,747,750 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 1,730,746. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 15,390 cases. Of the 15,390 confirmed cases, 1,226 are imported (Case #15425, originally classified as a domestic case, has been reclassified as an imported case from the US based on the findings of an epidemiological investigation); 14,111 are domestic; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 2 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has unknown sources of infection; 14 cases' sources of infection are being investigated, and a cumulative total of 106 cases have been removed from the list of confirmed cases. There have been a cumulative total of 764 COVID-19 deaths since 2020; of the 764 deaths, 756 are from domestic cases and the other 8 are from imported cases.
