Decisions concerning organization of 2009 World Games and 21st Summer Deaflympics reached at cross-sectoral coordination meeting held in response to influenza A(H1N1) outbreaks overseas

On May 1, 2009, in response to the influenza A(H1N1) outbreaks overseas, a cross-sectoral coordination meeting was held by the Director of the Sports Affairs Council Dai and Deputy Minister of Health Sung at the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) to discuss the organization of the 2009 World Games to be held in Kaohsiung and that of the 21st Deaflympics to be held in Taipei.Representatives from the organizing committees for those two events were also invited to participate in the meeting.The following four decisions were reached in the meeting:

1. The preparation for those two events will still be proceeded with.At the same time, the development of the influenza A (H1N1) outbreaks overseas will be closely monitored.

2. The decision to postpone the 2009 World Games to be held in Kaohsiung will be made by June 30, 2009 the latest.

3. The highest level of contingency planning for pandemic influenza will be adopted by Kaohsiung and Taipei.

4. Prior to the events, relevant drills will be conducted to ensure the comprehensiveness of the pandemic preparedness plan.
