On November 24, 2009, the 36th meeting held by the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) was convened by the commander-in-chief of CECC, the Vice Premier of the Executive Yuan, Li-Luan Chu.At the meeting, it was announced that over a million people in the nation have received the pandemic influenza A (H1N1) vaccine and the commander-in-chief of CECC Chu instructed the completion of the on-campus immunization campaign as soon as possible.On the other hand, CECC is urged to provide the general public with the correct information concerning the vaccine adverse event and the media is urged to not to blow the incident out of proportion, which may create unnecessary panic among the general public.
During the meeting, health officials decided to move forward the schedule to vaccinate the eighth and the ninth targeted groups on the vaccine priority list, including people aged between 19 through 24 years and people who are currently hospitalized, against pandemic influenza A (H1N1) to December 1, 2009.The Ministry of Education has been asked to assist in further promoting the immunization campaign among junior college/university students below 25 years old and to contact hospitals of medical schools or contracted hospitals of schools to arrange immunizations for students.The schedule to vaccinate the tenth targeted group on the vaccine priority list, healthy adults aged between 25 through 49 years, will be moved forward to December 7, 2009.Additionally, CECC will announced another list of about 3,000 contracted hospitals administering the vaccine and the list will be made available online for reference.
Immunization of the first six targeted groups on the vaccine priority list, including typhoon victims, health care and public health personnel, infants, pregnant women, pre-school children, people with major illness/injury, and elementary school students, has begun.CECC once again urged those targeted group to get the vaccine this week to avoid crowds of people getting vaccinated subsequently.
A total of 96 middle schools have participated in the on-campus immunization campaign.According to statistics compiled by the Taiwan Centers for Disease Control (Taiwan CDC), approximately 38, 000 students at 52 middle schools have received the vaccine and 1% of the population experienced needle shock from vaccination.Further, a total of 100 people were retained in hospital for observation.Currently, 2 still remain in the hospital and are expected to discharge from the hospital in the afternoon of November 24, 2009.
