On September 16, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced 41,670 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Of the 41,670 new cases, 41,430 are domestic and 240 are imported. The CECC announced 46 deaths today.

Regarding the 41,430 new domestic cases, 19,028 are male and 22,389 are female, while the gender of the other 13 cases is under investigation. They range in age from under five to above 90 years. Of those domestic cases, 8,942 were reported in New Taipei City, 5,294 in Taichung City, 4,904 in Taipei City, 4,455 in Taoyuan City, 3,396 in Kaohsiung City, 2,500 in Tainan City, 1,892 in Changhua County, 1,251 in Hsinchu County, 1,121 in Pingtung County, 1,008 in Miaoli County, 984 in Hsinchu City, 971 in Yilan County, 894 in Yunlin County, 808 in Keelung City, 748 in Nantou County, 660 in Hualien County, 582 in Chiayi County, 371 in Chiayi City, 326 in Taitung County, 163 in Kinmen County, 142 in Penghu County, and 18 in Lienchiang County.

Regarding the 46 deaths from domestic cases announced today, they were 28 men and 18 women ranging in age from 30 to above 90 years. They were severe cases.

Regarding the 240 imported cases, they all arrived in Taiwan between August 16 and September 15, 2022.

The CECC reported that a total of 17,055,651 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 11,156,214. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 5,891,355 cases. Of the 5,891,355 confirmed cases, 31,726 are imported; 5,859,575 are domestic; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 3 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has an unknown source of infection; 14 cases' sources of infection are being investigated. There have been a cumulative total of 10,469 COVID-19 deaths since 2020; of the 10,469 deaths, 10,453 are from domestic cases and the other 16 are from imported cases.
