CECC confirms 15 more imported COVID-19 cases

On December 17, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced 15 new confirmed imported cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. The CECC announced no deaths today.

Regarding the 15 new imported cases, they are eight men and seven women, aged between 10 to 69 years old. They arrived in Taiwan from the UK (two cases), the Czech Republic, the US (two cases), Ireland, Singapore (two cases), Vietnam, Nigeria, Maldives, Cambodia, the Philippines, Indonesia, and Thailand. They arrived between November 23 and December 16.

Additionally, seven imported cases have been reclassified as domestic cases after investigations. These cases are Case #16821, Case #16841, Case #16851, Case #16856, Case #16862, Case #16865 linked to Case #16768, and Case #16859 linked to Case #16870.

The CECC reported that a total of 4,729,623 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 4,709,526. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 16,786 cases. Of the 16,786 confirmed cases, 2,133 are imported; 14,599 are domestic; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 3 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has unknown sources of infection; 14 cases' sources of infection are being investigated, and a cumulative total of 111 cases have been removed from the list of confirmed cases. There have been a cumulative total of 849 COVID-19 deaths since 2020; of the 849 deaths, 837 are from domestic cases and the other 12 are from imported cases.
