10th Taipei International Conference on HIV/AIDS to be held on September 24 and 25, 2010

The Taiwan Centers for Disease Control (Taiwan CDC) will host the 10th Taipei International Conference on HIV/AIDS in the Howard International House Taipei on September 24 and 25, 2010. Echoing the theme for World AIDS Day 2010 “Universal Access and Human Rights”, and the focus of our national HIV-prevention efforts, protection of MSM and young people from HIV infection, the conference will discuss issues centered around topics, including “HIV/AIDS Epidemiology and Control Strategy”, “HIV/AIDS Prevention for MSM”, “HIV/AIDS Prevention for Sex Workers”, “HIV/AIDS Prevention for IDUs” and “Care, Support, and Human Rights for People Living with HIV/AIDS”.This conference is convened periodically to provide opportunity for international exchange of successful experiences in HIV/AIDS prevention and promote international interactions.

The conference was first convened in 1998.Since then, the conference is held every two years.This year’s conference has attracted over 700 participants, reaching a record high.Clearly, the international community has become more and more concerned about HIV/AIDS prevention.Besides spectacular speeches to be given at this year’s conference, the conference organizer has also invited non-governmental organizations for HIV/AIDS prevention and care to join the conference and set up booths at the conference venue.Moreover, in recognition of outstanding volunteers working in HIV/AIDS prevention, we have arranged poster displays and an award ceremony to praise their services.

Numerous domestic and international scholars and experts, central and local health-related agencies, non-governmental organizations, medical care institutions and schools have been invited to jointly participate in the conference, discuss HIV/AIDS related issues, and provide reference for formulation of future HIV/AIDS prevention programs and policies.
