For the new policy of allowing more Chinese tourists to visit Taiwan, Taiwan Centers for Disease Control (Taiwan CDC) has formulated corresponding quarantine and prevention measures, including 1.Reinforcing quarantine measures at ports of entry, 2.Increasing epidemic prevention and control surveillance system capacity, and 3.Raising awareness about infectious disease control among local tour guides through health education campaigns.
To reinforce quarantine measures at ports of entry, quarantine officers from Taiwan CDC will be assigned to station and enforce quarantine measures at all ports of direct cross-strait charter flights on weekends. To increase epidemic prevention and control surveillance system capacity, Taiwan CDC has made plans to strengthen multiple surveillance systems and assist any suspected cases of notifiable disease in obtaining appropriate medical treatment. To raise awareness about infectious disease control, Taiwan CDC has been working with the Tourism Bureau and various Travel Agent Associations to promote close observation of the “Communicable Disease Control Act” among local tour guides. For instance, according to the Communicable Disease Control Act, local tour guides are required to notify the health authority when a tourist in the tour group has developed suspected symptoms of notifiable disease during his travel.
To prevent importation of communicable diseases and protect the health of the general public in Taiwan, the aforementioned quarantine and prevention measures have been formulated with reference to Hong Kong’s experience in allowing mainland Chinese tourists to visit Hong Kong and in accordance with the purpose and scope of IHR 2005.
In response to the policy of allowing more Chinese tourists to visit Taiwan, Taiwan CDC has arranged the required manpower and quarantine routes, and is currently negotiating with other ministries to put the newly formulated quarantine and prevention measures into implementation.
