Xiamen in China sends notification concerning asymptomatic man testing positive for COVID-19 after his departure from Taiwan; CECC launches investigation and conducts contact tracing

On September 30, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced that Taiwan received a notification from Chinese authorities that an asymptomatic traveler had tested positive for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) after his departure from Taiwan.

The CECC reported that the case is a Taiwanese man in his 50s who ran a business in Xiamen, China for an extended period of time. The case left Taiwan for Xiamen with his wife on September 21. The case took multiple PCR and antibody tests between September 21 and September 28. He underwent PCR testing on September 21, September 22, September 24, and September 26. He only tested positive on September 26, and he is awaiting the test results for September 28 and September 29.

Taiwan's health authorities have identified a total of 33 individuals who had come into contact with the case in Taiwan. The CECC will continue to investigate the locations the case had visited in Taiwan to identify other contacts.
