On March 16, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced that the expiration date extension for unthawed doses of the Pfizer/BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine in Taiwan has been approved. The expiration date for unthawed doses of this vaccine can be extended from 12 months to 18 months from the date of manufacture. The expiration date of the Pfizer/BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine for adults without thawing has been extended to September 21, 2023, while the expiration date of the vaccine for children and infants has been extended to October 31. Thus, the CECC's announcement on the unavailability of Pfizer/BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine appointments (reservations included), dated February 6, does not apply anymore. With immediate effect, the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine is available again for infants, children, and adolescents as their first dose and for individuals 5 years of age and older as any subsequent dose. The CECC reminds people who have not completed their primary series vaccination or subsequent doses that this vaccine is an option for COVID-19 vaccination again.
