On April 2, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced ten new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan, with eight being imported and the other two being indigenous. A total of 339 cases have been confirmed in Taiwan as of writing. With respect to indigenous cases, Case #335 is an over 50-year-old male, and sought medical care at a clinic and hospital for having diarrhea for multiple days. He had contact with Case #291 (infected in Indonesia) on March 20. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on April 2. Related contacts are currently in home isolation. Case #336 is an over 50-year-old female with no recent travel history. She had a sore throat, runny nose and cough on March 17. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on April 2. The CECC continues to investigate related contacts of the case to identify the source of infection.
Among eight imported cases, two patients are women, and six patients are men, with their ages ranging between 10 and 69 years old. These patients entered Taiwan between March 14 and March 31 and displayed symptoms between March 14 and March 30. The countries the patients had traveled to before the onset of disease include Argentina, Austria, Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Denmark, Indonesia, Peru, the United Kingdom and the United States. They went overseas mainly for study or travel.
