Taiwan CDC provides details about "SARS-CoV-2 seroepidemiologic survey and long-term trend analysis project"

On June 16, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced that, in order to understand the trends in changes to SARS-CoV-2 seropositivity by age and geographic region, the Taiwan Centers for Disease Control (Taiwan CDC) will conduct a "SARS-CoV-2 seroepidemiologic survey and long-term trend analysis project." This project will be carried out by Taiwan CDC in collaboration with the Taiwan Blood Services Foundation (Taiwan Blood Foundation) and plans to perform tests on 36,000 selected archive samples of blood donated to blood donation centers nationwide between January and June this year. The chance of a donor who had donated blood during the specified period being included in the project is 3-4%.

The CECC pointed out that joining or withdrawing from this project does not affect the existing rights and interests of the blood donors and will not be specifically indicated on the database. This project has been reviewed by the Institutional Review Board (IRB), and adopts an opt out approach to ensure subjects' right to autonomy. If donors who had donated blood during the specified time period wish to opt out of this project, they are advised to call 1922 before June 30 and leave relevant information (blood bag number or name, ID number, and date of birth) or mail relevant information to:
Epidemic Intelligence Center of Taiwan Centers for Disease Control
No.6, Linsen S. Rd., Jhongjheng District, Taipei City.
Attn:SARS-CoV-2 seroepidemiologic survey and long-term trend analysis project

Taiwan Blood Foundation will then remove the sample from the sampling pool.
