CECC confirms 31,514 more COVID-19 cases, including 31,078 domestic cases and 436 imported cases

On January 5, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced 31,514 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Of the 31,514 new cases, 31,078 are domestic and 436 are imported. The CECC announced 45 deaths today.

Regarding the 31,078 new domestic cases, 13,976 are male and 17,088 are female, while the gender of the other 14 cases is under investigation. They range in age from under five to above 90 years. Of those domestic cases, 6,196 were reported in New Taipei City, 4,143 in Taichung City, 3,576 in Taipei City, 3,371 in Kaohsiung City, 3,366 in Taoyuan City, 2,594 in Tainan City, 1,355 in Changhua County, 1,023 in Hsinchu County, 864 in Hsinchu City, 669 in Miaoli County, 654 in Pingtung County, 573 in Yunlin County, 465 in Chiayi County, 453 in Keelung City, 437 in Nantou County, 427 in Yilan County, 278 in Chiayi City, 244 in Hualien County, 174 in Taitung County, 139 in Kinmen County, 70 in Penghu County, and 7 in Lienchiang County.

Regarding the 45 deaths from domestic cases announced today, they were 22 men and 23 women ranging in age from 20 to above 90 years. They were severe cases.

Regarding the 436 imported cases, they all arrived in Taiwan between December 4, 2022, and January 4, 2023.

The CECC reported that a total of 20,935,453 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 11,953,901. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 8,979,699 cases. Of the 8,979,699 confirmed cases, 41,642 are imported; 8,938,003 are domestic; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 3 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has an unknown source of infection; 14 cases' sources of infection are being investigated. There have been a cumulative total of 15,383 COVID-19 deaths since 2020; of the 15,383 deaths, 15,364 are from domestic cases and the other 19 are from imported cases.
