Taiwan's top baseball hero, Chien-Ming Wang, was invited by the Taiwan Centers for Disease Control (Taiwan CDC) to participate in the influenza A (H1N1) campaign during his short-term stay in Taiwan. As he continued injury rehabilitation, Wang agreed to spend some time shooting a video that urges the public to work as a team to stop H1N1.
The video was shot by a well-known director Yi-Zheng ke.In the video, Wang and members of the Fulin Elementary School together highlighted the message that teamwork was as important to fighting influenza as it is in baseball. To win in a baseball game, teamwork is required. To fight the H1N1 flu, teamwork is also necessary.Everyone can help fight the flu by practicing good health etiquette.By helping others through teamwork, you also have others on your side. The short film combined the baseball, which was Wang’s specialty, with the anti-epidemic campaign. The scene was set on the baseball field of Taipei city Fulin Elementary School.Young baseball players played roles in the film, stressing the spirit of teamwork through their group activities in order to urge the public to work together as a team to fight H1N1.During the post-production stage of film-making, orchestral music was chosen to be the background music of the video as a metaphor for teamwork. An outstanding orchestral performance requires teamwork, just like baseball and the H1N1 campaign.
On the day of filming, members of the school baseball team were thrilled to meet their idol in person.Even attending parents could not contain their excitement and took advantage of the opportunity to snap as many photos as they could. The proud new father of a baby boy himself, Chien-Ming Wang was quite gracious, acting not only as the little sluggers’ coach for the day, but also posing with them for photos.Wang also had trouble maintaining his game face, as his normally shy and solemn demeanor gave way to the occasional smile to the delight of all in attendance.
In the film, Chien-Ming Wang urges “teamwork in the battle to defeat influenza”, reminding everyone to take care of themselves and others by covering their mouths with handkerchiefs, tissues or the bend of their arm when they cough, wearing face masks when they are sick to reduce the spread of germs, and washing their hands thoroughly before touching their mouths, noses or eyes.Taking care of one’s own health also means looking after the health of others. This kind of teamwork is the only way to defeat H1N1.
In the battle against H1N1, vaccination is not the only weapon.Practicingrespiratory health and coughing etiquette, carrying a handkerchief and adopting other sanitary measures are also very important. The community effort to defeat H1N1 is a lot like baseball. It requires the cultivation of teamwork and team spirit.Practicingrespiratory health and coughing etiquette are all required to put an end to H1N1.
