Enterovirus Infection with Severe Complications in Taiwan - Week 40


Oct 13, 2015-- As of October 13, 2015, 5 cases of enterovirus infection with severe complications (including 2 death) have been confirmed by Taiwan CDC in 2015. These cases were all aged below 1 year old (Table 1); 3 cases caused by Coxsackie B5 and 2 cases caused by Coxsackie A16. Figure 1 displays the geographical distribution of these cases according to their residence. In 2014, there were 6 cases (including 1 death) of enterovirus infection with severe complications. 

One severe case was confirmed in Week 40 (October 7 to October 13, Fig. 2). The case was a 7 days old newborn baby boy; he was infected by Coxsackie B5 and still hospitalized in intensive care unit.
