03 February 2009--As of February 03, 2009, 4 cases of enterovirus infection with severe complications had been reported and confirmed. Among these 4 confirmed cases, 1 case was still hospitalized (in general hospital ward), 3 cases had been discharged. Those 4 confirmed cases were all below 5 years old (See Table 1(pdf file)), and 2 cases were located in the northern and 1 case each was located in the southern and central area of Taiwan. During weeks 4-5 (January 21 to February 3), 2 cases were newly confirmed. Both cases were caused by EV71, and as of February 3, 1 case was in general hospital ward and 1 case had been discharged. One of them is male and the other is female, and both aged below 4. One case was reported at Kaohsiung City and the other case was reported in Taipei County. (See Fig. 2(pdf file))
