May 19, 2009--As of May 19, 2009, 18 cases of enterovirus infection with severe complications had been reported and confirmed by Taiwan CDC. Among these 18 confirmed cases, 15 had been discharged, 1 was in ICU and 2 died. Those confirmed cases were all under 5 except one (see Table 1(pdf file)), and 4 cases were located in the northern area of Taiwan, 5 cases in the central, and 9 cases in the southern. Two cases were confirmed in Week 20 (May 13 to May 19). These two were both under 2, one was male from Taipei County and the other female from Chiayi City, and their infections were caused by EV 71. One was discharged on May 14 and the other in ICU at the writing. (see Fig. 2(pdf file))
