March 10, 2009--As of March 10, 2009, 8 cases of enterovirus infection with severe complications had been reported and confirmed by Taiwan CDC. Among these 8 confirmed cases, 7 cases had been discharged and 1 was in ICU. Those confirmed cases were all below 5 years of age. (see Table 1(pdf file)), and 2 cases each were located in the northern and central area of Taiwan, 4 in the southern area of Taiwan. (see Fig. 1(pdf file))

During Week 10 (March 4 to March 10), 2 cases were newly confirmed. Both cases were caused by EV71 and belonged to the same kindergarten, and as of March 10, 1 case was staying in ICU and 1 case had been discharged. One of them was a male and the other a female, and both below 4. The two cases were reported in Chiayi City. (See Fig. 2(pdf file))
