April 14, 2009--As of April 14, 2009, 11 cases of enterovirus infection with severe complications had been reported and confirmed by Taiwan CDC. Among these 11 confirmed cases, 9 cases had been discharged, 1 was in general hospital ward and 1 case had died. Those confirmed cases were all around 5 years of age (see Table 1(pdf file)), and 2 cases each were located in the northern and central area of Taiwan, 7 in the southern area of Taiwan. One case was confirmed in Week 15 (April 8 to April 14). The case was a male under 3 from Yunlin County. His infection was caused by EV71 and he died on April 5, 5 days after the onset. (see Fig. 2(pdf file))
