13 May 2014 update- Enterovirus Infection with Severe Complications in Taiwan - Week 19


May 13, 2014--As of May 13, 2014, 1 case of enterovirus infection with severe complications has been reported and confirmed by Taiwan CDC in 2014. This case was caused by Coxsackie A2 and aged below 1 year old (Table 1). Figure 1 displays the geographical distribution of the case according to the residence. In 2013, there were 12 cases (including 1 death) of enterovirus infection with severe complications; among 12 confirmed cases there were 7 cases caused by EV71.

No severe case was newly confirmed in Week 19 (May 7 to May 13, Fig. 2).
