June 3, 2014--As of June 3, 2014, 3 cases of enterovirus infection with severe complications have been confirmed by Taiwan CDC in 2014; these cases were caused by Coxsackie A2, Coxsackie A16 and Enterovirus 71 (EV71), respectively. They were all below 3 years old (Table 1). Figure 1 displays the geographical distribution of these cases according to their residence. In 2013, there were 12 cases (including 1 death) of enterovirus infection with severe complications; among 12 confirmed cases there were 7 cases caused by EV71.
No severe case was newly confirmed in Week 22 (May 28 to June 3, Fig. 2).
