6 May 2014 update- Enterovirus Infection with Severe Complications in Taiwan - Week 18


May 6, 2014--As of May 6, 2014, 1 case of enterovirus infection with severe complications has been reported and confirmed by Taiwan CDC in 2014. This case was caused by Coxsackie A2 and aged below 1 year old (Table 1). Figure 1 displays the geographical distribution of the case according to the residence. In 2013, there were 12 cases (including 1 death) of enterovirus infection with severe complications; among 12 confirmed cases there were 7 cases caused by EV71.

 

 

 

One severe case was confirmed in Week 18 (April 30 to May 6, Fig. 2). The case was a 9-month-old girl living in Changhua County; she was infected by CA2 and had been discharged.
