Enterovirus Infection with Severe Complications in Taiwan - Update 15


April 27, 2010--As of April 27, 2010, 7 cases of enterovirus infection with severe complications had been reported and confirmed by Taiwan CDC. Among these 7 confirmed cases, 5 had been discharged, 2 were in ICUs. Those confirmed cases were all under 5 years old (see Table 1(pdf file)). Four cases were from the northern part of Taiwan, and three were from the southern. (see Fig. 1(pdf file))

Three cases were confirmed in Week 16 (April 21 to April 27). These three were all under 3, one is boy from Kaohsiung County and two are girls from Taipei City and Illan County, the girl lived in Taipei City who is an imported case from China, and their infections were caused by EV 71. One had been discharged and two were in ICUs. (see Fig. 2(pdf file))
