December 13, 2011--As of December 13, 2011, 43 cases of enterovirus infection with severe complications had been reported and confirmed by Taiwan CDC. These cases are aged below 10 years (See Table 1(pdf file)) and reside in the northern, central, eastern and southern areas of Taiwan. (See Fig. 1(pdf file))

Eight cases were confirmed in Week 49 (December 7 to December 13). They are 2-year-old boy, 4-year-old girl and 11-month-old girl from Taichung City, 3-year-old boy and 20-month-old boy from Chiayi County, 2-year-old boy and 20-month-old boy from Yunlin County, 3-year-old boy from Taoyuan County. Their infections were all caused by EV71. The 4-year-old girl from Taichung City was still in general hospital ward and the rest of them had been discharged. (See Fig. 2(pdf file))
