A Decade After SARS —Lessons Learned and Preparedness were divided into five major parts: “Encouragement and Expectations” included interviews with Ministers of Health as well as Directors of Centers for Disease Control from the past and present. They talked about the revolution of communicable disease prevention system and advices as well as expectations towards the future. “Establishment of Foundation Stone on Emergency Preparedness” presented our response towards disease prevention including amendment of laws and regulations, establishment of National Health Command Center (NHCC), Communicable Disease Control Medical Network as well as Infectious Disease Control Prevention Center, develop medium and long term preparedness plan. “Comprehensive Preparedness” was a series of tasks in response to disease prevention which included surveillance, diagnosis, quarantine, vaccination, epidemiology training, informatization, as well as international cooperation. “Experience from Battling against Communicable Diseases” dictated how our preparedness applied to diseases such as Pandemic (H1N1) 2009, indigenous dengue fever, enterovirus outbreaks, AIDS among injected drug users, cases with NDM-1, and Novel Coronavirus. Through these challenges, the foundation stone and our comprehensive preparedness plan were proved to be effective when facing a disease outbreak. Finally, “Enhancement of Disease Prevention” revealed how we will tackle the challenge of emerging diseases by personnel training for future disease prevention system and continuously improving the disease prevention centers in order to be in line with international standards.
