CECC confirms 23,425 more COVID-19 cases, including 23,088 domestic cases and 337 imported cases


On August 18, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced 23,425 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Of the 23,425 new cases, 23,088 are domestic and 337 are imported. The CECC announced 34 deaths today.

Regarding the 23,088 new domestic cases, 10,665 are male and 12,408 are female, while the gender of the other 15 cases is under investigation. They range in age from under five to above 90 years. Of those domestic cases, 4,729 were reported in New Taipei City, 2,808 in Taipei City, 2,748 in Taichung City, 2,582 in Taoyuan City, 1,799 in Kaohsiung City, 1,522 in Tainan City, 963 in Changhua County, 663 in Miaoli County, 693 in Hsinchu County, 603 in Hsinchu City, 562 in Pingtung County, 544 in Yilan County, 532 in Yunlin County, 447 in Hualien County, 423 in Keelung City, 386 in Chiayi County, 370 in Nantou County, 251 in Chiayi City, 211 in Taitung County, 131 in Penghu County, 114 in Kinmen County, and seven in Lienchiang County.

Regarding the 34 deaths from domestic cases announced today, they were 21 men and 13 women ranging in age from 40 to above 90 years. They were severe cases.

Regarding the 337 imported cases, they all arrived in Taiwan between July 18 and August 17, 2022.

The CECC reported that a total of 15,587,263 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 10,603,389. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 4,975,970 cases. Of the 4,975,970 confirmed cases, 24,320 are imported; 4,951,596 are domestic; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 3 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has an unknown source of infection; 14 cases' sources of infection are being investigated. There have been a cumulative total of 9,540 COVID-19 deaths since 2020; of the 9,540 deaths, 9,524 are from domestic cases and the other 16 are from imported cases.
