CECC confirms 27,676 more COVID-19 cases, including 27,281 domestic cases and 395 imported cases


On January 6, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced 27,676 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Of the 27,676 new cases, 27,281 are domestic and 395 are imported. The CECC announced 62 deaths today.

Regarding the 27,281 new domestic cases, 12,141 are male and 15,133 are female, while the gender of the other seven cases is under investigation. They range in age from under five to above 90 years. Of those domestic cases, 5,520 were reported in New Taipei City, 3,606 in Taichung City, 3,066 in Kaohsiung City, 2,984 in Taoyuan City, 2,931 in Taipei City, 2,221 in Tainan City, 1,181 in Changhua County, 821 in Hsinchu County, 785 in Hsinchu City, 697 in Miaoli County, 630 in Pingtung County, 508 in Yunlin County, 403 in Chiayi County, 383 in Keelung City, 379 in Yilan County, 362 in Nantou County, 265 in Chiayi City, 208 in Hualien County, 134 in Taitung County, 125 in Kinmen County, 65 in Penghu County, and 7 in Lienchiang County.

Regarding the 62 deaths from domestic cases announced today, they were 32 men and 30 women ranging in age from 40 to above 90 years. They were severe cases.

Regarding the 395 imported cases, they all arrived in Taiwan between December 8, 2022, and January 5, 2023.

The CECC reported that a total of 20,969,346 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 11,960,121. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 9,007,371 cases. Of the 9,007,371 confirmed cases, 42,024 are imported; 8,965,293 are domestic; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 3 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has an unknown source of infection; 14 cases' sources of infection are being investigated. There have been a cumulative total of 15,445 COVID-19 deaths since 2020; of the 15,445 deaths, 15,426 are from domestic cases and the other 19 are from imported cases.
