CECC confirms 4 more imported COVID-19 cases; four cases arrive in Taiwan from France, UK, Germany and Philippines


On November 3, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced four new confirmed imported cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Those four cases (Cases #565-568) arrived in Taiwan from France, Germany, the United Kingdom, and the Philippines.

Case #565 is a Taiwanese man in his 20s. The Taiwanese man visited France for studies in August. He experienced a sore throat, runny nose, and cough in mid-October. The Taiwanese man underwent a COVID-19 PCR test, and he tested negative. The Taiwanese man returned to Taiwan on November 1. When entering Taiwan, the Taiwanese man voluntarily notified airport quarantine officers of his symptoms. After he was given a COVID-19 test, he was taken to a group quarantine facility for quarantine. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on November 3.

Case #566 is a Taiwanese woman in her 20s. The Taiwanese woman traveled to the United Kingdom for studies in August. She experienced nasal congestion on October 29. The Taiwanese woman returned to Taiwan on November 1. She voluntarily notified airport quarantine officers of her symptoms when entering Taiwan. After she was given a COVID-19 test, she was taken to a group quarantine facility for quarantine. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on November 3.

Case #567 is a Taiwanese man in his 10s. The case traveled to Germany for studies in October. He developed a runny nose on October 31. The case returned to Taiwan on November 1 and then underwent quarantine at his home. Because he experienced a headache, runny nose, and muscle pain, the case notified the health authority which then arranged his COVID-19 testing. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on November 3.

Case #568 is a Philippine woman in her 10s. The Philippine woman traveled to Taiwan for studies on October 20. She hasn't developed any suspected symptoms since arrival. Before completing the quarantine period, she underwent a COVID-19 test on November 2. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on November 3.

The CECC reported that a cumulative total of 102,505 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 101,092. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 567 cases. Of the 567 confirmed cases, 475 are imported; 55 are indigenous; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 1 case has unknown sources of infection; and 1 case (Case #530) has been removed from confirmed cases (Case#530 is not assigned to any patients). Of the confirmed cases, there have been 7 deaths, and 521 patients have been released from isolation, with the other 39 patients remaining hospitalized in isolation.
