On January 4, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced three new confirmed imported cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Those three new cases arrived in Taiwan from the Philippines (Case #814), Dominican Republic (Case #815), and France (Case #816).

Case #814 is an over 30-year-old female migrant worker from the Philippines. The Philippine migrant worker came to Taiwan to work on December 10, 2020. She stayed at a quarantine facility to undergo quarantine after arrival. She hasn't developed any symptoms since arrival. The migrant worker was tested for COVID-19 on December 23 before completing the quarantine period, and she tested negative. After completing the quarantine period, her employer arranged for her to visit the hospital to take a self-paid COVID-19 on January 1, 2021. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on January 4.

Case #815 is a Taiwanese woman in her 20s. The Taiwanese woman traveled to Dominican Republic to visit her friends in February 2020 and returned to Taiwan on January 1, 2021. She hasn't experienced any symptoms since arrival. Because the certificate of a negative COVID-19 test result provided by the woman didn't meet the requirements, she took a self-paid test upon arrival. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on January 4.

Case #816 is a Taiwanese woman in her 40s. She worked in France for an extended period of time. The woman took a COVID-19 test at a local community testing site in early October 2020 and tested positive. She was later tested for COVID-19 several times in France and all the test results came back negative. She returned to Taiwan on January 1, 2021. She hasn't experienced any symptoms since arrival. As she needed to attend a funeral, the health authority arranged for her to visit the hospital to take a self-paid COVID-19 test. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on January 4.

The CECC reported that a cumulative total of 127,608 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 125,701. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 815 cases. Of the 815 confirmed cases, 720 are imported; 56 are indigenous; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 2 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has unknown sources of infection; and 1 case (Case #530) has been removed (Case #530 is not assigned to any patients). Of the confirmed cases, there have been 7 deaths, and 696 patients have been released from isolation, with the other 112 patients remaining hospitalized in isolation.
