On January 21, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced 21,078 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Of the 21,078 new cases, 20,773 are domestic and 305 are imported. The CECC announced 33 deaths today.

Regarding the 20,773 new domestic cases, 9,583 are male and 11,182 are female, while the gender of the other eight cases is under investigation. They range in age from under five to above 90 years. Of those domestic cases, 4,405 were reported in New Taipei City, 2,442 in Kaohsiung City, 2,416 in Taoyuan City, 2,391 in Taichung City, 2,207 in Taipei City, 1,709 in Tainan City, 926 in Changhua County, 570 in Hsinchu County, 550 in Miaoli County, 419 in Hsinchu City, 419 in Pingtung County, 404 in Yunlin County, 365 in Keelung City, 337 in Yilan County, 286 in Nantou County, 236 in Chiayi County, 209 in Hualien County, 186 in Chiayi City, 120 in Kinmen County, 112 in Taitung County, 55 in Penghu County, and nine in Lienchiang County.

Regarding the 33 deaths from domestic cases announced today, they were 22 men and 11 women ranging in age from 40 to above 90 years. They were severe cases.

Regarding the 305 imported cases, they all arrived in Taiwan between December 21, 2022, and January 20, 2023.

The CECC reported that a total of 21,390,815 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 12,064,492. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 9,323,771 cases. Of the 9,323,771 confirmed cases, 46,797 are imported; 9,276,920 are domestic; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 3 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has an unknown source of infection; 14 cases' sources of infection are being investigated. There have been a cumulative total of 16,071 COVID-19 deaths since 2020; of the 16,071 deaths, 16,051 are from domestic cases and the other 20 are from imported cases.
