On December 28, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced eight new confirmed imported cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Those eight new cases, Cases #787-794, arrived in Taiwan from the United Kingdom, the Philippines, and Indonesia.

Case #787 is an over 20-year-old man from the United Kingdom. The British man came to Taiwan to visit his relatives on December 20. He developed swollen tonsils and ear pain on December 25. He notified the health authority of his symptoms on December 26, and he was arranged to seek medical care and be tested for COVID-19.  Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on December 28.

Case #788 is an over 20-year-old female migrant worker for the Philippines. The Philippine migrant worker traveled to Taiwan to work on December 13. After entry, she stayed at a group quarantine facility to undergo quarantine. The female migrant worker hasn't developed symptoms since arrival. Before completing the quarantine period, she was tested for COVID-19 on December 26. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on December 28.

Case #789 is an Indonesian fisherman in his 20s. The fisherman traveled to Taiwan to work on December 12. After arrival, he stayed at a quarantine hotel to undergo quarantine. He hasn't experienced any symptoms since arrival. After completing the quarantine period, his labor broker arranged for him to be tested for COVID-19. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on December 28.

Case #790 is an over 20-year-old man from the United Kingdom. The British man was diagnosed with COVID-19 in his home country on August 29. He was given four nucleic acid tests from December 9 and December 21, and all the test results came back negative. The man came to Taiwan for personal business on December 23. After entry, he stayed a group quarantine facility. He hasn't developed any symptoms since arrival. He was tested for COVID-19 on December 27, and infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on December 28.

Case #791 is a Taiwanese man in his 20s. The Taiwanese man visited the United Kingdom for studies in February and returned to Taiwan on December 22. After arrival, he stayed at home to undergo quarantine. He experienced a fever, cough, and other symptoms on December 26. The health authority then arranged for him to be tested. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on December 28.

The CECC reported that a cumulative total of 124,021 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 121,903. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 783 cases. Of the 793 confirmed cases (details about Case #792-794 specified in another press release), 698 are imported; 56 are indigenous; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 2 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has unknown sources of infection; and 1 case (Case #530) has been removed (Case #530 is not assigned to any patients). Of the confirmed cases, there have been 7 deaths, and 654 patients have been released from isolation, with the other 132 patients remaining hospitalized in isolation.
