On June 8, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced 80,223 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Of the 80,223 new cases, 80,195 are domestic and 28 are imported. The CECC announced 159 deaths today.

Regarding the 80,195 new domestic cases, 37,611 are male and 42,550 are female, while the gender of the other 34 cases is under investigation. They range in age from under five to above 90 years.

Of those domestic cases, 11,587 were reported in Taichung City, 11,443 in New Taipei City, 11,048 in Kaohsiung City, 8,039 in Taoyuan City, 7,054 in Tainan City, 5,582 in Changhua County, 5,531 in Taipei City, 3,236 in Pingtung County, 2,293 in Hsinchu County, 1,806 in Hsinchu City, 1,778 in Yunlin County, 1,705 in Nantou County, 1,687 in Miaoli County, 1,420 in Yilan County, 1,367 in Chiayi County, 1,223 in Hualien County, 1,115 in Keelung City, 933 in Taitung County, 878 in Chiayi City, 314 in Penghu County, 99 in Kinmen County, and 57 in Lienchiang County.

Regarding the 159 deaths from domestic cases announced today, they were 105 men and 54 women ranging in age from 20 to above 90 years. They were severe cases.

Regarding the 28 new imported cases, they were 13 men and 15 women ranging in age from under five to 79 years. Of the cases, four arrived from the US, and one each from Korea and Thailand; the areas the remaining 22 cases arrived from are being investigated. They all arrived between May 9 and June 7, 2022.

The CECC reported that a total of 11,896,536 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 9,272,960. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 2,620,941 cases. Of the 2,620,941 confirmed cases, 13,274 are imported; 2,607,613 are domestic; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 3 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has an unknown source of infection; 14 cases' sources of infection are being investigated. There have been a cumulative total of 3,373 COVID-19 deaths since 2020; of the 3,373 deaths, 3,358 are from domestic cases and the other 15 are from imported cases.
