CECC confirms 18 more COVID-19 cases, including 14 domestic cases and 4 imported cases


On July 15, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced 18 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Of the 18 new cases, 14 are domestic and the other 4 are imported. The CECC also announced six deaths today.

The CECC pointed out that of the 14 domestic cases (of whom, seven tested positive when they were in home isolation or completed their isolation period), eight are men and the other six are women, aged between under 10 to 69 years old. They began to suffer the onset of symptoms between July 7 and July 14, 2021. Regarding those domestic cases, Taipei City reported the most cases, at 9, and Taoyuan City had the second highest number, at 3. New Taipei City reported 2 cases.

Regarding the six deaths announced today, they were one man and five women between 60 and 89 years old.

Regarding the four new imported cases, Case #15437 is an over 40-year-old male from Afghanistan. He traveled to Taiwan from Afghanistan for work on July 1. He was tested for COVID-19 on July 13 before the end of his quarantine period, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on July 15.

Case#15446 and Case #15447 are two Indonesian male fishermen, and they took the same flight to Taiwan from their home country on May 12. They were in quarantine and isolation until July 12. The company they worked for arranged for them to take self-paid COVID-19 tests on July 13. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the cases on July 15.

Case #15452 is a Dutch male in his 40s. He traveled to Taiwan from United Arab Emirates (Dubai) for work on July 13. Upon arrival, he was tested for COVID-19 at the airport. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on July 15.

The CECC reported that a total of 1,707,362 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 1,690,141. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 15,346 cases. Of the 15,346 confirmed cases, 1,218 are imported; 14,075 are domestic; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 2 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has unknown sources of infection; 14 cases' sources of infection are being investigated, and a cumulative total of 106 cases have been removed from the list of confirmed cases. There have been a cumulative total of 759 COVID-19 deaths since 2020; of the 759 deaths, 751 are from domestic cases and the other 8 are from imported cases.
