CECC confirms 33,871 more COVID-19 cases, including 33,330 domestic cases and 541 imported cases


On January 4, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced 33,871 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Of the 33,871 new cases, 33,330 are domestic and 541 are imported. The CECC announced 17 (including one imported case) deaths today.

Regarding the 33,330 new domestic cases, 15,334 are male and 17,974 are female, while the gender of the other 22 cases is under investigation. They range in age from under five to above 90 years. Of those domestic cases, 6,621 were reported in New Taipei City, 4,381 in Taichung City, 3,763 in Taipei City, 3,613 in Kaohsiung City, 3,476 in Taoyuan City, 2,915 in Tainan City, 1,445 in Changhua County, 1,138 in Hsinchu County, 939 in Hsinchu City, 843 in Miaoli County, 694 in Pingtung County, 628 in Yunlin County, 499 in Chiayi County, 497 in Nantou County, 461 in Keelung City, 443 in Yilan County, 324 in Chiayi City, 230 in Hualien County, 173 in Taitung County, 137 in Kinmen County, 93 in Penghu County, and 17 in Lienchiang County.

Regarding the 16 deaths from domestic cases announced today, they were nine men and seven women ranging in age from 60 to above 90 years. They were severe cases.

Regarding the 541 imported cases, they all arrived in Taiwan between December 4, 2022, and January 3, 2023.

The CECC reported that a total of 20,897,984 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 11,947,901. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 8,948,201 cases. Of the 8,948,201 confirmed cases, 41,266 are imported; 8,906,881 are domestic; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 3 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has an unknown source of infection; 14 cases' sources of infection are being investigated. There have been a cumulative total of 15,338 COVID-19 deaths since 2020; of the 15,338 deaths, 15,319 are from domestic cases and the other 19 are from imported cases.
