CECC confirms 2 more imported case; two cases arrive in Taiwan from India


On April 17, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced two new confirmed imported cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. The two new cases (Case #1072 and Case #1073) are two males from India, who are in their 30s and 20s, respectively. They both traveled to Taiwan for studies on March 30, and didn't experience any symptoms during the quarantine period.

The CECC pointed out that their school arranged for them to take a COVID-19 test at the hospital on April 14, after they completed their quarantine period. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the cases on April 17.

The CECC reported that a cumulative total of 198,711 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 197,018. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 1072 cases. Of the 1072 confirmed cases, 956 are imported; 77 are indigenous; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 2 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has unknown sources of infection; and 1 case (Case #530) has been removed (Case #530 is not assigned to any patients). Of the confirmed cases, there have been 11 deaths, and 1033 patients have been released from isolation, with the other 28 patients remaining hospitalized in isolation.
