CECC confirms 1 more imported COVID-19 case; case travels overseas for work

On May 6, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced one new confirmed imported case of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Case #439 is an over 30-year-old female. She visited the United Kingdom for work in January and returned to Taiwan on April 26.
The CECC reported that the case had a stuffy nose and fatigue when she returned to Taiwan. She voluntarily reported her symptoms to quarantine officers at the airport upon arrival. After the quarantine officers collected her specimen for testing, she was transported to a group quarantine facility. After she tested negative for COVID-19, staff at the facility arranged her stay at a quarantine hotel. However, her symptoms didn’t improve during the home quarantine period, and she even had an abnormal sense of smell. Health agencies then arranged her medical care and COVID-19 testing on May 4. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on May 6. The case is currently hospitalized for medical treatment in isolation. The CECC is investigating passengers on the same flight as the case to identify contacts of the case.
