CECC confirms 2 more indigenous cases and one more case of unknown source of infection; CECC continues to investigate sources of infection

On April 29, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced three new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Of the three new cases, two are classified as indigenous and one has an unknown source of infection which is being investigated. Of the two indigenous cases, one (Case #1120) is a hotel employee at a quarantine hotel, and the other one (Case #1121) is a family member of and lives with Case #1078. The case (Case #1122) whose source of infection is being investigated is a pilot for an airline company.

Case #1120 is a Taiwanese male in his 40s who is an employee working at a quarantine hotel near the airport. The Taiwanese man began to develop a cough, a runny nose, a decreased appetite, and other symptoms on April 17. He sought medical attention several times but his symptoms didn't improve. He sought medical attention again at a hospital on April 27, and was diagnosed with pneumonia. He was then admitted to an isolation ward and tested. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on April 29 (the CT value was 21, and he tested positive for both IgM and IgG antibodies).

Case #1121 is a Taiwanese female in her 40s. She is a family member of and lives with Case #1078, an airline pilot. She experienced chest tightness and difficulty breathing on April 27. The health authority then arranged for her to seek medical attention and undergo testing. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on April 29 (the CT value was 18).

Case #1122 is a Taiwanese male in his 50s who is a cargo pilot for an airline company. He was on duty in the United States from April 2 to April 9. After returning to Taiwan and completing his quarantine period, he tested negative. He again flew to the United States on assignment on April 19. On April 24, he flew back to Taiwan from the United States via Japan. He experienced a sore throat and fever on April 27. The health authority then arranged for him to seek medical attention and undergo testing. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on April 29 (the CT value was 21).

The CECC reported that a cumulative total of 206,358 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 204,315.
