On October 9, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced four new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Of the four new cases, one is domestic and the other three are imported. The CECC announced one death today. Regarding the one new domestic case, Case #16396 is girl under five. She experienced a fever and diarrhea on October 5, and sought medical attention and was tested for COVID-19 on October 7. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on October 9 (the CT value was 38).

Regarding the three new imported cases, they are one man and two women, aged between under 10 to 59 years old. They arrived in Taiwan from the US (two cases), and Myanmar. They arrived between September 24 and October 6.

Regarding the one death (Case #8748) announced today, the case was an over 70-year-old female with chronic disease.

The CECC reported that a total of 3,571,519 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 3,553,809. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 16,287 cases. Of the 16,287 confirmed cases, 1,651 are imported; 14,582 are domestic; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 3 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has unknown sources of infection; 14 cases' sources of infection are being investigated, and a cumulative total of 110 cases have been removed from the list of confirmed cases. There have been a cumulative total of 846 COVID-19 deaths since 2020; of the 846 deaths, 834 are from domestic cases and the other 12 are from imported cases.
