On January 3, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced 25,009 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Of the 25,009 new cases, 24,649 are domestic and 360 are imported. The CECC announced 22 deaths today.

Regarding the 24,649 new domestic cases, 11,396 are male and 13,240 are female, while the gender of the other 13 cases is under investigation. They range in age from under five to above 90 years. Of those domestic cases, 4,796 were reported in New Taipei City, 3,231 in Taichung City, 2,795 in Taipei City, 2,622 in Kaohsiung City, 2,399 in Taoyuan City, 2,149 in Tainan City, 1,298 in Changhua County, 725 in Hsinchu County, 608 in Hsinchu City, 599 in Miaoli County, 557 in Yunlin County, 541 in Pingtung County, 412 in Nantou County, 400 in Chiayi County, 360 in Keelung City, 337 in Yilan County, 289 in Chiayi City, 170 in Hualien County, 169 in Kinmen County, 107 in Taitung County, 78 in Penghu County, and seven in Lienchiang County.

Regarding the 22 deaths from domestic cases announced today, they were 13 men and nine women ranging in age from 50 to above 90 years. They were severe cases.

Regarding the 360 imported cases, they all arrived in Taiwan between December 3, 2022, and January 2, 2023.

The CECC reported that a total of 20,857,794 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 11,941,842. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 8,914,351 cases. Of the 8,914,351 confirmed cases, 40,731 are imported; 8,873,566 are domestic; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 3 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has an unknown source of infection; 14 cases' sources of infection are being investigated. There have been a cumulative total of 15,321 COVID-19 deaths since 2020; of the 15,321 deaths, 15,303 are from domestic cases and the other 18 are from imported cases.
