On September 17, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced 39,628 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Of the 39,628 new cases, 39,394 are domestic and 234 are imported. The CECC announced 40 deaths today.

Regarding the 39,394 new domestic cases, 18,077 are male and 21,304 are female, while the gender of the other 13 cases is under investigation. They range in age from under five to above 90 years. Of those domestic cases, 8,583 were reported in New Taipei City, 5,019 in Taichung City, 4,603 in Taipei City, 4,360 in Taoyuan City, 3,131 in Kaohsiung City, 2,284 in Tainan City, 1,776 in Changhua County, 1,084 in Hsinchu County, 1,038 in Pingtung County, 1,026 in Yilan County, 958 in Hsinchu City, 871 in Yunlin County, 866 in Miaoli County, 788 in Keelung City, 754 in Nantou County, 712 in Hualien County, 566 in Chiayi County, 362 in Chiayi City, 327 in Taitung County, 138 in Kinmen County, 131 in Penghu County, and 17 in Lienchiang County.

Regarding the 40 deaths from domestic cases announced today, they were 21 men and 19 women ranging in age from 50 to above 90 years. They were severe cases.

Regarding the 234 imported cases, they all arrived in Taiwan between August 18 and September 16, 2022.

The CECC reported that a total of 17,111,847 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 11,173,339. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 5,930,927 cases. Of the 5,930,927 confirmed cases, 31,959 are imported; 5,898,914 are domestic; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 3 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has an unknown source of infection; 14 cases' sources of infection are being investigated. There have been a cumulative total of 10,509 COVID-19 deaths since 2020; of the 10,509 deaths, 10,493 are from domestic cases and the other 16 are from imported cases.
