Investigation into cluster infection involving naval crews of Dunmu fleet is complete; infection found only within naval crew members aboard Panshi

The Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced the findings of the investigation into the cluster infection of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) involving naval crews of the Dunmu fleet. The investigation finds 36 confirmed cases who tested positive for viral nucleic acid and eight probable cases who tested positive for antibodies to the disease. These confirmed cases are crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship on which four clusters of human-to-human transmission were found. The earliest date of disease onset of the confirmed cases was before the ship arrived in Palau, and the source of infection is unknown. This indicates that Taiwan had sporadic cases of community-acquired infection in March. However, after the CECC’s close monitoring and follow-up of the cases, the cluster infection within the Panshi ship didn’t lead to a second wave of infections in communities in Palau and Taiwan.
