CECC confirms 98 more COVID-19 cases, including five domestic cases and 93 imported cases


On March 21, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced 98 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Of the 98 new cases, five are domestic and 93 are imported (42 of them tested positive after landing). The CECC announced no deaths today.

Regarding the new domestic cases, they are two men and three women ranging in age from 50 to 69 years.

Regarding the 93 new imported cases, they are 50 men and 43 women ranging in age from under five to 89 years. Of the cases, 17 arrived in Taiwan from Indonesia, 14 from Vietnam, six from the US, four each from Singapore and Thailand, two each from Korea and Malaysia, and one each from Turkey, Cambodia, the UAE, Hong Kong, France, Germany, the Philippines, India, and Australia; the areas the remaining 35 cases arrived from are being investigated. They all arrived between March 5 and 20, 2022.

The CECC reported that a total of 6,745,556 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 6,723,157. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 22,003 cases. Of the 22,003 confirmed cases, 6,441 are imported; 15,508 are domestic; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 3 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has an unknown source of infection; 14 cases' sources of infection are being investigated, and a cumulative total of 134 cases have been removed as confirmed cases. There have been a cumulative total of 853 COVID-19 deaths since 2020; of the 853 deaths, 839 are from domestic cases and the other 14 are from imported cases.
