CECC confirms 43 more COVID-19 cases, including 3 domestic cases and 40 imported cases


On January 6, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced 43 new confirmed case of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Of those cases, three (Cases #17307-17309) are the domestic cases announced yesterday, and the other 40 are imported. The CECC announced no deaths today.

Regarding the 40 new imported cases, they are 20 men and 20 women, aged between under five to 79 years old. 38 of them arrived in Taiwan from the US (24 cases), India (three cases), Panama (two cases), the Netherlands, the UAE (two cases), Canada, the Philippines, Italy, the UK, China, and France, and the countries where the other two cases arrived are being investigated. They all arrived between December 26, 2021, and January 5, 2022.

Additionally, the imported case (Case #17127) announced on December 31, 2021, has been reclassified as a domestic case after an investigation, and the case has been found to be linked to Case #17073.

The CECC reported that a total of 5,036,659 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 5,016,638. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 17,198 cases. Of the 17,198 confirmed cases, 2,532 are imported; 14,612 are domestic; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 3 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has unknown sources of infection; 14 cases' sources of infection are being investigated, and a cumulative total of 111 cases have been removed from the list of confirmed cases. There have been a cumulative total of 850 COVID-19 deaths since 2020; of the 850 deaths, 838 are from domestic cases and the other 12 are from imported cases.
