On August 23, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced 26,382 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Of the 26,382 new cases, 26,095 are domestic and 287 are imported. The CECC announced 16 deaths today.

Regarding the 26,095 new domestic cases, 11,959 are male and 14,121 are female, while the gender of the other 15 cases is under investigation. They range in age from under five to above 90 years. Of those domestic cases, 5,258 were reported in New Taipei City, 3,189 in Taipei City, 3,038 in Taichung City, 2,673 in Taoyuan City, 2,179 in Kaohsiung City, 1,650 in Tainan City, 1,132 in Changhua County, 762 in Miaoli County, 711 in Hsinchu County, 692 in Pingtung County, 666 in Yunlin County, 659 in Hsinchu City, 647 in Yilan County, 503 in Hualien County, 464 in Nantou County, 439 in Chiayi County, 424 in Keelung City, 319 in Taitung County, 307 in Chiayi City, 199 in Kinmen County, 161 in Penghu County, and 23 in Lienchiang County.

Regarding the 16 deaths from domestic cases announced today, they were six men and 10 women ranging in age from 50 to above 90 years. They were severe cases.

Regarding the 287 imported cases, they all arrived in Taiwan between August 1 and 22, 2022.

The CECC reported that a total of 15,795,524 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 10,702,861. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 5,086,521 cases. Of the 5,086,521 confirmed cases, 25,593 are imported; 5,060,874 are domestic; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 3 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has an unknown source of infection; 14 cases' sources of infection are being investigated. There have been a cumulative total of 9,673 COVID-19 deaths since 2020; of the 9,673 deaths, 9,657 are from domestic cases and the other 16 are from imported cases.
