CECC raises its risk level for Vietnam to medium risk as coronavirus cases in Vietnam continue to increase


On August 12, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced that one new confirmed imported case (Case #481) of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. A cumulative total of 83,828 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 82,776. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 481 cases. Of 481 confirmed cases in Taiwan, 389 are imported; 55 are indigenous; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship, and 1 case has yet to be determined. Of the confirmed cases, there have been 7 deaths, and 450 patients have been released from isolation, with the other 24 patients remaining hospitalized in isolation.

The CECC also announced the updated list of countries/regions eligible for shortened quarantine periods in Taiwan. The CECC reported that Vietnam continued to record more locally-acquired cases in recent weeks, with Da Nang becoming the epicenter of the country’s COVID-19 resurgence. Cases linked to Da Nang have been reported in 15 first-tier administrative districts in Vietnam. Moreover, a second wave of infections has occurred in certain areas in the country. In consideration of the status of the pandemic in Vietnam, the CECC has raised its risk level for Vietnam to medium from low risk. The latest list of eligible countries/regions is as follows:
1. Low-risk countries/regions: New Zealand, Macao, Palau, Fiji, Brunei, Thailand, Mongolia, Bhutan, Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar.
2. Medium-risk countries/regions: South Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Vietnam.
