On April 20, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced two new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Those two new cases (Case #1078 and Case #1079) are Taiwanese men in their 50s and 60s, and both are cargo flight crewmembers. They went to the United States with another crewmember for flight duties on April 14 and quarantined at a local hotel arranged by their airline. After they returned to Taiwan on April 16, they underwent home quarantine for three days.

The CECC pointed out that Case #1078 developed an itchy throat on April 18, and Case #1079 experienced an itchy throat and pain all over his body on April 17. Because they needed to perform duties again, their airline arranged for them to be tested for COVID-19 on April 19. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the cases on April 20. Case #1078 had a CT value of 29, and Case #1079 had a CT value of 17. An investigation into the sources of infection is underway.

The CECC reported that a cumulative total of 199,699 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 197,883. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 1078 cases. Of the 1078 confirmed cases, 960 are imported; 77 are indigenous; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 2 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has unknown sources of infection; and 1 case (Case #530) has been removed (Case #530 is not assigned to any patients). Of the confirmed cases, there have been 11 deaths, and 1038 patients have been released from isolation, with the other 29 patients remaining hospitalized in isolation.
